Day 6 & 7 The wide brown land for me

Queensland - Northern Territory border
So yesterday was spent driving and driving and driving.... 650 km across the mighty Barkly Tablelands, which to the locals like my sister Al is 650 km of "boring as batsh..." but to those of us who have spent most of their lives not far from a rainforest of some kind, it was kind of interesting! Got to love the road makers up here, pick a point A and a point B, draw a straight line between them and then make a road to follow it! Crests and curves in the road are  noted by signs, just in case you are catatonic when you reach them. We hurtled along at 120 km most of the day, ( the speed limit is 130 km but we decided not to push it with the camper.)

Lunch at Barkly Homestead

We picniced at Barkly Homestead with a gale strong enough to blow the food of our plates but some super powered flies that managed to hang on no matter how often you waved them away! We luckily didn't need fuel at $1.99 a litre, but did feel guilty about using the loo so bought a postcard for Caitlin's daily post and a sticker for posterity. This is the only spot for fuel on the route until you get to the Stuart highway.
So we finally made it to Alison and Thomas' mid afternoon and got set up before a great afternoon and evening spent catching up with them over a beer and a BBQ. It was really great to take advantage of the late sunrise this morning and sleep until 7.00am

Today has been spent catching up on some washing before being taken on a tour of the town centre for some shopping and an icecream by our little tour guides while mum and dad were at work. The girls and I have made lasagne and a mudcake for dinner. It has been nice to have a quite afternoon to just do not much at all..

Tomorrow we plan to tour the local sites with the locals and check out Woks Up for dinner. We have met the chef, Abbey and Olivia's dancing teacher, who has promised me gluten free, so that will be  awesome.
Till next time, love to all
E and S xxxx
