Looking back east from the Drummond Ranges |
With apologies to Graeme Connors and his song 'The Great Australian Dream"
We turned west in
search of something we'd never seen before,
The kind of vision Splendid Banjo saw.
With a iphone fully charged and an eye for things unique,
We left our home in Bundaberg and went outback for 5 weeks.
We stood beneath the Tree of Knowledge, let our imagination run,
Way back to the Great Shearer's Strike of '91.
And as we quietly contemplated all that tragic history,
A tour of grey nomads from the city pulled up in front of us.
Thought we'd try a new direction down the Barcoo, headed south,
To the town built round the Black Stump and Jacky Howe.
But it was back on course that afternoon to the Stockman's Hall of Fame,
Where we traced the steps of the pioneers and ran into grey nomads again.
We set out to find the spirit, the inspiration for John Flynn,
Walked the streets where Fysh and McGuiness gave the Kangaroo its wings.

The Graeme Connors song has always been a favourite and now we are able to spend some time in the area which is awesome. The Emu Camper went past many of its namesakes (emus) today as we travelled out along the Capricorn Highway dealing with the roadtrains. Not sure if they get bigger in the Territory but we will see. Tomorrow we hang in Longreach to visit the Stockman's Hall of Fame, QANTAS museum and whatever else we can fit in.
Love to all
